Last spring Jill Farbarik led a Newborn Group. Jill is an experienced PEPS Leader who has led 6 groups, one evening group and several in the daytime.
But this time around, Jill was leading an evening group just for moms.

Jill, with her daughters.
The group had 9 moms, and they wanted the flexibility of meeting in the evenings. “The women in our group wanted to make connections with other first time mothers while they were all still on maternity leave and before heading back to work full time,” Jill said.
Many expecting new moms had asked if they could meet in the evenings and so last spring we offered and option in North Seattle.
Jill said that this group really wanted the freedom to meet in the evening because they were working or headed back to work soon, but they wanted the intimacy of a women-only group where they could share about the specific challenges of being working first-time moms.
The flexibility was the most important aspect for this group. Jill said the group had the same sense of connection as other daytime groups she’s led, but “with the ability to fit into these working parents’ schedules.”
And yet, the group flowed just as expected from Jill’s experience. “New parents have the same issues they want to talk about regardless of where or when they meet, in my experience.”

This group connected like many PEPS Groups, outside of their weekly meetings. “They met for walks while still on leave, did some moms nights out,” Jill said. The group has continued to meet and had a family get-together over the summer.
When we asked Jill what she thought about her experience with this first-ever group, she said, “It is a great opportunity for the working moms who want the chance to meet others in a women–only group.”
Starting in January 2018, we are offering evening options for moms only—in North Seattle, Woodinville and southeast Seattle and surrounding neighborhoods. Evening groups for new moms are a great option for single parents and for parents managing work schedules.
Because these are new groups, we’d love your help letting expecting moms know about this option. We’ve listed them as ‘Moms only, 1 Parent Attendance’ in Newborn Groups. Please help us spread the word!
